Fatoumata Gandega


Fatoumata Gandega is a multidisciplinary artist and curator who focuses her craft on the sense of belonging from the Black and Brown immigrant experience in the West.


Through her work, she aims to amplify marginalized voices by exploring intersectional identities and community empowerment.


She employs a collaborative and participatory approach with communities to co-create work that reflects their authentic experiences, using mediums such as photography, filmmaking and writing.


Fatoumata’s practice is rooted in storytelling, using narrative to explore themes of social justice, identity and resilience.


She was the 2023 recipient of the Irish Writers Centre's Mentor/Member programme & one of the Young Writer Delegates for the Belfast Book Festival.


Her work has been published in Corporeal Lit Mag, SeaGlass Literary, Rewrite.ie, REBELLE ZINE, Irish Writers Centre and the Black Irish anthology 'Blue Bodies'


Fatoumata's first documentary 'Where The Heart Is' was awarded 'Official Selection' at the Catalyst International Film Festival 2024.


Her last project, Beyond  Borders, has been supported by the European Parliament and other EU  organizations.  It  was recently launched  in Brussels.


Fatoumata is one of six UK filmmakers selected for the International Documentary  Association’s

 Getting Real’ 24 delegation in based Los Angeles.


She was recently awarded the Create & Fire Station Artists’ Studio Residency 2024.
